Lake Forest California

Lake Forest is a city in Orange County, California. Lake Forest is about 20 miles southeast of Anaheim and 45 miles southeast of Los Angeles. The population was 77,264 at the 2010 census. Nearby communities include Mission Viejo (to the east), Laguna Niguel (to the south), and Irvine (to the northwest).

The area once known as El Toro was a growing agricultural community for much of the 20th century until residential, commercial and industrial development began to replace the farmland following World War II. When Occidental Petroleum decided to create a master-planned community in the 1960s around the area’s abundant trees and man-made lakes, development ensued and the community was named Lake Forest owing to the numerous eucalyptus trees which provided landscaping for its new modern homes. In 1991 Lake Forest was incorporated as a city, with residents voting to invoke the name of the planned community as the new city’s name.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.9 square miles (46 km2).

The city of Lake Forest puts on an annual summer concert at Pittsford park. Other public events include the Fourth of July 5K run and fireworks display over the lake at the Sun & Sail Club. On Thursdays at 3 there is a farmers market at the Regal town center every week, where locals can go and buy products from the local farmers and vendors.
Lake Forest is home to two county parks. Whiting Ranch in the eastern part of the city was the site of an infamous mountain lion mauling in 2004 that captured the attention of the West Coast news media.

Lake Forest is home to a number of outdoor sites offering diversions of both a recreational and cultural nature. Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park offers around 1,500 acres of woodlands usable for mountain biking, hiking, and many other forms of outdoor recreation.
